"Bernstein provides a field guide to the various types of Emotional Vampires and advises readers how to protect themselves from being victims of these predatory personalities."Boston Globe

From bestselling author Albert J. Bernstein

The author of Dinosaur Brains offers protection from people who seek to destroy the emotional and psychological well-being of others. Like the fabled demons, these vampires:

Think their needs are more important than yours
Believe "the rules" apply only to other people
Use their tempers in the same way terrorists use bombs
Emotional Vampires tells readers how to spot a "vampire" in their lives, which defense strategies to employ to prevent one from striking, and what to do if and when they find themselves under attack.

From the Back Cover

"If I’d had a copy of this book when I started therapy, I might have saved myself a lot of time and money. Bernstein provides a field guide to the various types of Emotional Vampires and advises readers how to protect themselves from being victims of these predatory personalities."Diane White, The Boston Globe

Emotional Vampires: They’re out there . . . masquerading as ordinary people. They may lurk in your office, your family, your circle of friends; perhaps they even share your bed. Chances are, you know all too many of them. Bright, talented, and charismatic, they win your trust, your confidence, and your affectionthen drain you of your emotional energy. But take heart as you walk through the darkness, it doesn’t have to be that waythe more you know about vampires, the less power they have over you.

Here Dr. Albert J. Bernstein, vampire-slayer and author of the best-selling Dinosaur Brains and Neanderthals at Work, reveals the secrets that will protect you once and for all. Detailing a whole range of personality types and human responses, Bernstein shows you how to spot the "vampires" in your life: self-serving Narcissists, hedonistic Antisocials, exhausting Paranoids, or over-the-top Histrionic drama queens. And, with valuable advice, psychological perspective, and much-needed humor, he gives you a range of defense strategies that are guaranteed to keep the blood-sucking creatures of darkness from draining you dry.

By the end of Emotional Vampires, you’ll be armed with superior knowledge, a treasure chest of vampire-slaying tools, and all the confidence you need to take on the most draining people in your life and win without shedding the first drop of blood.

I can’t remember the author or title, but it was a guy who started a company and basically let people decide what they wanted to do, their hours, and I think they even decided their own pay. He discovered that people, when they are set free, actually do really good work and the company grew to have several divisions in a couple years. It might have been a company in South America.

Anyone know what book this was? Or anything similar about innovative business cultures?

One book you might find helpful is The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. It’s good.

I am looking to create an online directory similar to article dashboard but i want something which is more visually appealing and has specific functions for adsense. Can anybody provide me with some info?

Main concerns are look, feel, applications and cost…i’m not asking for a lot lol!!!

This software needs to benefit the authors as well as the business behind the site.

Thanks

Adsense does not like directories and you may find it difficult to get an account and if you do they may do their favourite trick of disabling it once you reach the $100 threshold.
The big problem is copied content.
Article Dashboard is probably a premium publisher and the rules are different, Adsense approach you for this honour, but you need many thousands if not millions of visitors daily to become one.
It has been suggested that Adsense no longer invite site to become Premium publishers.
Not sure what you mean by specific funtions for Adsense but you are not allowed to alter the code in any way unless you can by some chance contact Adsense and get their approval

I am designing a business card for someone and i don’t know how much to charge. Can anyone tell me the prices for business cards? I don’t mean the printing one, but the designing part!

Thanks..
Ry, Thanks for the quick reply. what is you’re not charging per hour, but per design. Then how much would you charge?

If it is just desiging and nothing creative, the regular rate is $20. But if they ask to design a logo for them, it can go up to $400-600 depending.

The going rate for any good designer is $125 / hour.

2 Factory Farming: A REPORT CARD Part 1 of 5We have a huge health and environmental scandal in our modern industrial system of meat and poultry production. The damage documented in today’s factory farms far exceeds the damage that was depicted in Upton Sinclair’s novel, The Jungle, a book written over 100 years ago. Some scientists have gone so far as to call the condemned current factory farm practices as “mini Chernobyls.”
The European Union stands virtually alone in establishing strong health and environmental standards for the industry. In the U.S and elsewhere, the meat and poultry industry is dominated by dangerous uses of arsenic, antibiotics, growth hormones and by the dumping of massive amounts of sewage in fragile waterways and environments. This video documents the vast catastrophic impact on the environment and public health.
As one observer noted, if terrorists did this, we would be up in arms, but when it is a fortune 500 company, it is just “business as usual.”
In 1906, public outrage at the scandal exposed by Sinclair led to major reforms that cleaned up a corrupt and dangerous system.
